Gluten Free Afternoon Tea at Home

By Tiffany Detweiler - Tuesday, August 21, 2018

Last week was Afternoon Tea Week so the kids helped me whip up a feast of little sandwiches, cupcakes, scones, Nutella mousse and of course tea! Kaylee made 3 different sandwiches, Jack made scones and Sean and I made cupcakes! It was a lot of fun and the big kids did great working on their own! We also had the pleasure of enjoying a lovely Jasmine Tea from Brin d’Arômes! These beautiful handcrafted shaped tea bags add that extra magical touch to Afternoon Tea! They come in a variety of designs, we used the Unicorn shaped ones which the kids LOVED! I think these tea bags would be SO delightful as part of a birthday tea, bridal or a baby shower!

We set the table in my Grandmothers fine China and enjoyed the tasty treats!
The Nutella mousse was super easy to make, I used 1/4 cup of Nutella and 1 cup of heavy whipping cream. In a stand mixer I whipped the two ingredients until thick and fluffy! I topped it with a dollop of whipped cream and edible gold flakes.

The Cupcakes were simple vanilla cupcakes. I made a small batch since I didn't want the kids eating cupcakes for days!

Small-batch Gluten Free Vanilla Cupcakes

  • 3 tablespoons (1.5oz) unsalted butter softened
  • 1/4 cup and 3 tablespoons (87g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (60g) King Arthur Gluten Free Measure for Measure flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup and 1 tablespoon milk
Makes 6 cupcakes

 The Scones were Meyer Lemon

The 3 sandwiches were
1. Turkey, Basil and Indigo rose tomatoes
2. Cream cheese, green onion and cucumber
3. Tuna and dill pickle

This was a fun way to let the kids practice their cooking and baking skills and Tea etiquette! Such a fun memory for us to have!
