Silver Lake Loop Trail, Big Cottonwood Canyon
By Tiffany Detweiler - Monday, October 10, 2016
Yesterday afternoon we went on a little adventure into Big Cottonwood Canyon! We thought it would be fun to take a picnic dinner up into the mountains and see if there was any Fall color left to see. Unfortunately we missed nearly all the Fall colors in this particular Canyon but the landscape was still incredibly breathtaking! We also completely miss judged how much cooler it is in the mountains! While it was a very pleasant 70 in the valley it was a brisk 52 degrees when we stopped for dinner! There was still snow dusting the mountains!
We braved the cool mountain air and enjoyed our picnic and a walk around Silver Lake. The lake is located at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon and is circled by a boardwalk that has picnic tables and benches along the trail. Its about a mile walk around the lake and very family friendly!
This kid was so happy getting a cookie as a special treat!
Not only is it a scenic walk but you can also Fish in the lake and there are a number of other trails that intersect with the Silver Lake Loop trail including the Twin Lakes Trail, Lake Solitude Trail, and the Brighton Lakes Trail.
My Cute Family! James and I heard close to a million times that the kids hands were frozen solid! They still had fun though!
Mini Explorers!
I definitely want to do this walk again I will just make sure to check the weather and dress accordingly!
